A Conversation at International House

August 17th 1999

A quiet start ended up being a full and interesting Conversation with some novel inputs from some of the Students from International House.
A comment that grabbed at my sense of humour came when commenting on our living out of awareness of any vision or sense of community.  Said one, "It's a miracle we don't melt in the bath."

So the chestnuts of the need to create the kind of future we want rather than waiting and hoping for something good to turn up.
The experience of sharing ideas was mentioned as necessary.  Without sharing our passion in forums such as the conversations gave the sensation of carrying baggage around.   It simply had to be told which of course is the very purpose of the conversations.   And to get strength knowing that there are others on this journey.

It was interesting to hear some of our younger participants raising some of the issues that are repeated over and again by our more mature conversationalists.   The need to balance our lives between the struggle for a dollar and our part in the community and family.  People are just trying to do too many things and become incredibly stressed.  Better to limit our activities and get satisfaction from what we do well.

Some of the issues raised included the matter of reduced spending on education and that economics must not be allowed to govern our actions or our policies.

A need was seen to develop the skill amongst us of vision development and to figure out what would be the most useful questions to ask to create an aware community.

One action piece that drew a deal of time was about writing to politicians.  This is to be explored further and the outcomes disseminated to the rest of the conversation groups.

Altogether an enjoyable evening that finished with the last words being, "When living inside your passion -  being true to yourself -  you really create.

No date has been set for the next Conversation here.
