Lunch time chat at St James Ethics Centre

July 21st

A smaller group than usual but interesting never the less.

Two themes seemed to evolve out of the concerns expressed.
The first was about the way we think about these issues.  How do we analyse, learn, predict?  By what methodology?  Some thoughts expressed on how we might exercise different strategies.   We certainly agreed that the conversations alone are not enough but also agreed that the conversation was totally necessary as a prelude to serious or thoughtful action.

The second was that our purpose would be served by thinking about possibilities rather than problems. We need to create the future rather than becoming victims of it.  Of course the question of "how" came along and a series of actions were discussed.

Later we will develop a series of possible actions and post them on this site as a kind of menu of things to do.  Write to politicians,  call businesses with questions and so on.  We certainly have to speak up if we want to change the systems.

A conversation about the banks and the other topical news piece about a certain radio announcer.  Noted that the banks are trying to "fix" their image problem but not addressing the question,  "How did we get into this state?"   "What parts of our own behaviour do we need to change?"
Such questions seem to never be addressed.

That hour went very fast.  Must have been interesting again.
