Conversation at North Sydney

June 16th  1999

A wide ranging conversation as often happens with much of the space being taken up around two issues in particular.

The first was about business and how to put morality back into economics. To get past the 'cheapest is best' line of thinking.

It appeared that many of our intellectual gurus in the business world actually have little or no practical hands on experience.

Executives now have to 'communicate' to get the job done but have unlikely ever had such practices modelled for them.

The other major topic was about how we can uncouple ourselves from the machine? How can we generate a suitable lifestyle for ourselves without being a part of the final problem?

Some thoughts were about provoking people to think more deeply about what they were doing in the world. About consuming more thoughtfully and about taking the necessary time to reflect.

There was also some chat about how we might change the structure of the conversations to make them a little more focussed. We don't want to slip into a high quality "Ain't it awful."

Better to cover a particular topic with the question, "How might we solve that problem?"

Other talk was about Genetically Engineered foods and our proposed resistance to this.  If you would like to know more or become involved in some action,  give us a call or send and email.  Tel: 9819 7914

Conversations at this site are going to be given a particular theme in future so watch out for some interesting times.

The next Conversation at North Sydney will be on Wednesday July 14th at  6.15pm
