Passion Cafe
Cafe Rush
Five Dock

Monday  24th May 1999

Numbers for this event fell dramatically and we were unable to raise a quorum for a proper passion cafe.  But that did not in any way stop us from having an interesting conversation.  Even though that was not of the usual form we did cover some very interesting perspectives.

One view was expressed that the democracy  we currently know is a farce and we do not really live with our own choices.   Would we not be better served if those who paid most tax were on the council?

Government should limit their attention to major issues such as the Military, quarantine, immigration,  allocation of finance, public health (macro policies) and education (macro policies)

So what of the rest?  It is up to us as citizens to get ourselves into the Government process and eventually we will be better served if we change the voting system.  We could vote on issues as interactive technology becomes more widespread.  This could easily be facilitated either via the web or interactive TV.

So you can see that it doesn't take a full room to generate a rip roaring conversation.  Just some passion behind some thoughtful ideas.  Now if that happens in a cafe with excellent coffee, what do you have?

A Passion Cafe perhaps?

We have not set a date for the next such event.  If you would like these to continue we need to hear from you.

Email your interest in keeping these going and any other comments that you think might be useful.
