Gosford

October 9th 1999

Meeting in somebody's home adds a certain friendly dimension to a Conversation and this event at Poussart's house proved that.  We were also delighted to have a visitor from the Byron region join us this evening.

The topic of bringing about social change was again raised. The principal of raising awareness and consciousness to affect a sense of interconnectedness and community support became a theme for our discussion.  So what sort of awareness?  Well for one, that human beings are NOT economic entities along with a sense that we need to enjoy an economy of QUALITY rather than QUANTITY.
There was also a discussion about how we might create some sort of "Wellness" indicator to replace or sit beside and impact on the GDP as a measure of our success.

The biggest possibility to come out of our discussion this evening was a move to create a meeting space to see how we might impact on the generational cycles of:

  • unemployment

  • crime and imprisonment

  • poor health

  • domestic violence - serial assault

  • mental illness.

A conversation is planned to see what we might do as citizens to influence a break in these and other such cycles.

Thanks again to Carmel and Peter for the use of their home.

Next Gosford Conversation will be on November 4th.
